King Uranta is a self-taught visual artist and designer based in Lagos, Nigeria. Grounded in a professional graphic design background, his practice expanded into 3D composition and animation in 2019, and continues to evolve through an ongoing exploration of photography and design.
For King, these varying mediums are tools to articulate the psychological weight and complexity of life. Each piece he develops becomes a reflection of thought and emotion, translated through color, texture, and form.
Whether crafting introspective visual pieces or conceptualizing future physical objects, his art is a demand for pause, inviting viewers to confront their own realities and connect with the profound sincerity of the moment.
King’s work has earned international recognition through his debut solo exhibition “Chromatic Odyssey” and group showings in New York, Art Dubai, and Art Basel Miami, alongside a collaboration with Art X Lagos for their Art X Live showcase.
Beyond gallery spaces, King has collaborated with a wide range of musical artists locally and internationally, bringing his visual language into the world of music.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I am driven by an insatiable curiosity to understand how things are made and why they matter to me.. As a self-taught artist and designer, this drive is the engine behind my entire practice. Rooted in a professional graphic design background, my work expanded into 3D composition and animation in 2019 and continues to evolve through a multidisciplinary exploration of photography, motion graphics, sound design, and video editing.
For me, these varying mediums are not just technical pursuits; they are tools to articulate the psychological weight and complexity of life. Every piece I develop is a reflection of thought and emotion, translated through color, texture, and form. My art is a demand for pause, inviting viewers to confront their own realities and connect with the profound sincerity of the moment.
This conceptual rigor recently culminated in my self-hosted debut solo exhibition, Chromatic Odyssey. It also drives my ongoing collaborations ranging from visual world-building for local and international musicians to collaborative showcases like Art X Live with Art X Lagos. My visual language has expanded to international audiences, with work exhibited in New York, Art Dubai, Art Basel Miami and across the city of London.
However, the satisfaction of a completed piece is always secondary. My true fulfillment lies in the process: the knowing, the learning, and the discovering.
I create because I love to, and I stay curious because I want to know how to create. Ultimately, I believe there is nothing I cannot make, I just haven’t learned how to yet.
